It has become commonplace to lament that we live in a post-truth era. Fabricated stories circulate faster than corrections, and sophisticated tools can now generate convincing fake images and voices. Yet the deeper problem may be not that people believe too much, but that they trust too little. When citizens come to regard every source as equally suspect, they often retreat into the views of their own community.
